Cebu City, Cebu. The Cebu Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX), built by Metro Pacific Tollways Corp., will open on Wednesday (April 27) after four years of planning and construction.

The CCLEX, one of the country's largest infrastructure projects, will feature an all-electronic toll collection system to ensure safe and seamless transit in Metro Cebu.

For shipping traffic, the 8.5-kilometer CCLEX will include two lanes in each direction and a 51-meter navigational clearance. CCLEX is intended to service at least 50,000 vehicles per day at its design speed of 80 kilometers per hour.

By placing Cordova as the key gateway for island tourism in Bohol, the Visayas region, and mainland Cebu, CCLEX is expected to improve Cebu's tourism.

Sunstar quoted MPTC Chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan said, "We are thrilled and honored to have come to this stage, opening the largest infrastructure project in this region of the country."

"Not far from here, Cebuanos celebrated a 501-year-old victory over a stronger force in a pitched fight. Today, we commemorate a different milestone, a modern victory won via engineering and construction that has resulted in a stunning structure that has become a Cebu icon," he added.
