Russia-Ukraine war news latest updates: Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the decision to invade Ukraine had been a difficult one. He further alleged that the Ukrainian government had oppressed people in the Donbass region.

Russian President Vladimir Putin remarked, as reported by Russian state-owned media Russia Today, that the invasion of Ukraine was "a difficult decision," but that the residents of the Donbass region were not "stray dogs," and that the Ukrainian government abused them.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Saturday that sending Russian troops to Ukraine was "a difficult decision, without a question."

He went on to describe the series of circumstances that, in his perspective, had forced the attack.

On Putin's orders, the offensive began on February 24.

The majority of Western countries deemed it "unjustifiable" and "illegal," and Russia has since been subjected to harsh penalties.
